Look for the Little Doors

I HEAR THE LORD SAYING:  “LOOK FOR THE LITTLE DOORS”

The Lord has been talking to me a lot about little doors, or more accurately, doors within doors.

You would have heard that scripture where Jesus tells the disciples that it “would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven”. (Matthew 19)

This idea of the small door, often called the eye, came alive when we were in Jerusalem and I got to see an original door with the eye...which is the name for a smaller door within it! (See picture) 

That scripture makes a lot more sense when you understand that is what the Lord was talking about- that the eye was also a word to describe a small door within a bigger door. I want to share a little more what I feel the Lord has been revealing to me...

The “eye” - was a smaller door within a door that allowed people to enter a city at night quickly without opening the larger doors into a fortified city.  At a certain time of night, it was safer for the city if the bigger doors remained shut to prevent an onslaught or attack. So if merchants arrived late at night and the doors were closed, they could still enter via the smaller door. 

What does this all mean?

You don’t always need a big door to enter a new place. Maybe you’re looking for the wrong opportunity and can’t see the smaller opportunity inside it.  

Doors will be open to you depending on what season it is. If you look for the big door in the night season it won’t open and you could make the mistake that the city of possibilities is closed to you. It isn’t, you’re just looking for the wrong door! Are you in a night season? Don’t feel a door is closed- look for a smaller door!

Small doors only allow one person in. You can’t take in all your stuff. What are

You carrying that needs to be laid down so you can enter that narrow door? 

So - what about that camel- could he enter even though difficult? Yes, but he would need to stoop down to be able to get inside. Just like us, when we humble ourselves we are able to enter doors that seem impossible to enter.

Camels also represent providence. Don’t worry, when it’s time to enter those smaller doors, you will be provided for. You will not lose that which God has given you, even though those doors seem small and insignificant- providence will also go with you!

Finally, that small door is there to protect you once you enter. Sometimes big doors are closed to you for your protection. Don’t look at a closed door as something to keep you out, but rather keep you safe once you’re inside!
